DO you need a Hearing Test?

Hearing Test

what is involved?
To test whether a hearing loss is present, investigations of the function of the auditory system are done. This is to determine where the problem lies along the auditory system and whether medical intervention is required.

Tests of hearing acuity include:

pure tone and speech audiogram

tympanometry (middle ear function test)

loudness discomfort levels

otoacoustic emissions

For children, especially over the age of 3, modified versions of some of these tests are performed, including play to make the testing more appealing. For a child 18 months to 3 years, we have screening tests that can be performed.

However, for very young babies and infants, the testing is quite specific and success will depend on the infant’s stage of development.
